Hello All, today we are going to look at why it’s very important to look after the health of our liver.  For this post the Best Supplement For Liver Health – My Recommendation I will look at exactly why it’s important to look after the human body’s 2nd largest organ, after the skin.

The Liver’s function is to filter the blood coming from the digestive tract, before passing it on to the rest of the body.  It also detoxifies toxic chemicals and free radicals.  Plus it metabolizes fats, proteins and carbohydrates.

Then as it does so, the liver secretes bile that ends up back in the intestines.

It is for sure vital for our health that our liver functions properly.

Recently, I looked at Liver Health in another post.   In that post, I looked at What is the Best Liver Detox Home Remedy but here instead I will look at the Best Supplements.

Best Supplement For Liver Health – My Recommendation ?

1# – Looking After Your Liver

The reason why you should look after your liver health is simple really.  It’s a terrible pun I know but “you need your liver to live that’s why it’s called the liver”.  Some of the functions of the liver I mentioned above.  These are perhaps the best known but in total there is something like 500 estimated different functions.

An unhealthy liver can cause you to become overweight, totally mess with your blood sugar, exhaust your energy levels and can make you very ill.  You don’t want to ever really let your body get in this condition.  It is one of the last things you could ever want.  Even though the silver lining is that the liver is very good at healing itself.

Below, before discussing my best supplement for Liver Health I will share some ideas.  These you can try to further protect your liver cells from damage.  Some of these you may know already but I will try my best to describe each one in as much detail as I can.

2# – Preventative Measures

i.)  Managing your weight.

If you are overweight, you’re in danger of having a fatty liver that can lead to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).  One of the fastest-growing forms of liver disease.  Weight loss can play an important part in helping to reduce liver fat.

ii.)  Eating a Balanced Diet

Avoid high calorie-meals, saturated fat, refined carbohydrates (such as white bread, white rice and regular pasta) and sugars. Don’t eat raw or undercooked shellfish.

For a well-adjusted diet, eat fibre, which you can obtain from fresh fruits, vegetables, whole-grain bread, rice and cereals. Also eat meat (but limit the amount of red meat), dairy (low-fat milk and small amounts of cheese) and fats (the “good” fats that are monounsaturated and polyunsaturated such as vegetable oils, nuts, seeds, and fish).

Hydration is essential as well, so drink a lot of water.

iii.)  Practice Safe Sex

Unprotected sex or sex with multiple partners increases your risk of hepatitis B and hepatitis C.  Hepatitis you may have heard of but what you may not is this is a liver infection.  Hepatocytes are one of the most common cells in the Liver (1)

iv.)  Washing Your Hands Regularly

Use soap and warm water immediately after using the bathroom.  Hand hygiene is very important.  I probably don’t need to tell you this but make sure you wash your hands if you have changed a diaper/nappy, and before preparing or eating food.

v.)  Do Not Share Personal Hygiene Items

Do NOT share Razors or toothbrushes etc. because if you cut yourself or your gums bleed, they can carry small levels of blood that may be contaminated.  This also like unprotected sex carries the risk of hepatitis.

vi.)  Don’t Drink Alcohol to Excess

This is a very common health problem to a lot of people all around the world.  Alcoholic beverages if in excess carry some pretty nasty toxins inside. In the worst-case scenario, they can damage or destroy liver cells and scar your liver.

vii.)  Exercising on a Regular Basis

This can help your liver because regular exercise helps to burn triglycerides for fuel and can also reduce liver fat.

3# – Health Issues Associated with the Liver

i.)  Fluid retention is the most common sign of liver disease, affecting 50% of the people suffering from Cirrhosis a condition in which scar tissue replaces healthy liver tissue.

Fluid accumulates in your abdomen or your legs causing them to swell up which can be very uncomfortable.

ii.)  Jaundice This condition causes your urine to change colour making it darker and a yellowish tint in the skin or the whites of your eyes. It appears when bilirubin a pigment that forms when red blood cells break down, builds up in your bloodstream.

A healthy liver absorbs bilirubin and converts it into bile. Your body then excretes it in the stool.

iii.)  Confusion:  When your liver is not functioning properly it is unable to filter toxins, they can then travel to your brain. The resulting condition, known as hepatic encephalopathy.  It can cause confusion, memory problems, lethargy and in the worst cases put you in a coma.

iv.)  Internal Bleeding:  Your liver typically cycles about 25 per cent of your blood from the portal vein. But cirrhosis creates an opportunity for bleeding. You may vomit blood or notice blood in the stool or rectal bleeding.

If you do be sure to contact a doctor immediately as you may very well need to go to the hospital.

Azaro Nutrition Liver Health Cleanse + Repair Review

AzaroAbout Azaro Nutrition Liver Detox…

This is a product I’ve selected because it is made in the United States Of America.  Is going for a great price and it contains 22 powerful herbs and ingredients.

I haven’t actually read many reviews for this product.  This is a cause for concern but for me, this is a good alternative to Leptitox.  Another product that contains many different ingredients for boosting liver health.

What Does It Contain…

Contains nutrient-dense plants and herbs :

Milk Thistle, Chanca Piedra, Artichoke, Dandelion, Yarrow, Beet Root, Zinc Oxide, Choline, and Jujube Fruit.

Plus propietary blend.

How Do the Ingredients Heal your Liver?

Milk Thistle

The most tried-and-true herb for protecting your liver. Milk Thistle contains Silymarin, which helps reduce oxidative stress in the liver. Milk Thistle is rich in Selenium, a vital component of Glutathione.

Glutathione is the body’s first line of defence and it’s critical to a healthy immune system.

Chanca Piedra

Chanca Piedra has a powerful antioxidant effect, as well as a special protein that may protect liver tissue against oxidative stress. Also, known as Phyllanthus Niruri, this plant has been traditionally used for thousands of years and was discovered deep within the Amazonian rain forest.

Artichoke

artichoke is a potent antioxidant and has similar liver regenerating attributes to milk thistle. Artichoke helps with chronic liver diseases; it is a potent liver restorative and is beneficial for various liver and gallbladder disorders.

Dandelion

Dandelion has traditionally been used for digestive support and liver health, likely due to its antioxidant profile and polysaccharides. It aids our liver by maintaining the proper flow of bile.

Bile is one of the most important bodily fluids when it comes to digestion and detoxification.

Having a healthy Liver is extremely important because of the role it plays in your body. You need to buy a supplement for liver detox. Of course you can work on your diet and take better care of your body but certainly a proper liver detox is a huge benefit to health.

The primary functions of the liver are:

  • Metabolism of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates.
  • Enzyme activation.
  • Storage of glycogen, vitamins, and minerals.
  • Synthesis of plasma proteins, such as albumin, and clotting factors.
  • After doing extensive research and reading a ton of reviews on Vita Liver health cleanse and Detox supplement, I would say the vast majority of people said that it worked extremely well for them and improved the function of their Liver.

  1. I have often heard about the benefits of milk thistle but Artichoke I thought it was just for dipping sauces. Luckily I stopped drinking before I done any damage. But I know a few people for whom it was a little late. I do see people who are heavy drinkers often getting very confused even when they are not drinking maybe they need some of this. Why is this not recommended to be used when pregnant. Is it because the baby is still developing it’s organs?

    • Hi Chris, Thanks for commenting. Yes, a lot of liver health products use milk thistle and dandelion. Artichoke is full of antioxidant properties. Hence why this is added. As for drinking alcohol I personally know what you mean. The reason people get confused as there are certain toxic chemicals and free radicals which you consume at the same time. This is actually one of the reasons why a healthy liver is important because it helps break these down and flush them out of our system. Also, the reason this is not recommended for pregnant women is for the same reason as any supplement because if a woman is pregnant or breastfeeding everything they consume is by default consumed by the baby. It is not that the supplement will 100% harm the baby but it is always best not to risk it.

Once again, thank you for the awesome post!  This time it was over your recommendation for liver health, and I like the supplement that you have recommended!  The big thing that I like about this supplement is the fact that it has milk thistle in it.  There have been many studies that suggest milk thistle is good for the liver!
