For today’s post another topic inspired by one of the questions I got asked on Quora – Best Brain Supplement Reviews: Nootrogen…  Now, I have briefly looked at brain health here on this website. A few products I have reviewed have claimed to be able to help boost brain function; including my recent review for Turmeric Curcumin Plus, Resurge and probably most notably Cognibiotics by Bioptimizers.

For the Cognibiotics post, I used the word nootropics in the title.  I actually think now that this may have been a mistake. As I never see this word used anywhere, amongst the official product information.  However, for this product I am reviewing today Nootrogen this is totally a 100% nootropics stack supplement.

Nootropics if you don’t know to refer to any supplements or drugs that claim to enhance cognitive function for already healthy people.  As of 2020 research is still in its very early stages of determining the real quality of these types of products but from a consumer point of view, there are many of these supplements that are very popular. 

You need not look any further than on Amazon to see this with many nootropic products getting very good customer reviews ? Nootrogen is amongst these reviews but it doesn’t have as many reviews as some others – if I’m being honest.

However, I have chosen to review this product because I trust the company Vitabalance and because Nootrogen (I think) is for sale for a very fair price.

1# – Boosting Brain Function ~
Best Brain Supplement Reviews

Anyone in the market looking for the best brain supplement reviews is most likely looking to improve their brain function.  Cognitive processing to make reactions quicker, be more alert and focus on what they need to do.  In hindsight, there are many dietary factors that you can take on board to enhance your mental alertness.

Turmeric is one such type of food that supposedly claims to help with mental alertness, as do certain probiotics but as fully dedicated products go neither are found inside Nootrogen, but nevertheless what is may actually surprise people.

More on this soon but yes eating the right kind of foods can boost cognitive function, and a healthy diet is certainly something to consider in this respect.  Potential-wise though with the right Nootropics or smart supplements boosting brain function is a very real possibility.

hmm… Well till I actually looked this term up earlier this year I actually thought Nootropics were some kind of Psychoactive type of drugs in the same vein as DMT and other Psychedelics.  AND actually, according to a recent study taken by the Complutense University of Madrid, I am not wholly wrong for thinking this.  DMT has been shown to aid in neurogenesis.

Nootropics basically are taken for this reason; To repair and build new neural networks within the brain.  So, my thinking here is not too farfetched but the only thing DMT, which is the main active ingredient of ayahuasca (which is a combination of 2 different South American plants), is illegal.

It is a Nootropic (DMT is) kind of as-is maybe other psychoactive drugs, in theory, but the Nootropics I am on about today are very much legal products that even on some occasions (such as with Nootrogen) are in fact FDA and GMP approved. 

So definitely not the same in this respect but  Nootrogen, for example, DOES contain one of DMT’s not too distant relatives called DMAE.  Short for DiMethyl (like DMTs 1st 2 letters) Amino Ethanol.  D-M-A-E!  It also contains many other ingredients such a Vitamin and Proprietary blend but this I will save till the section after the next one in this post.

But just to summarise Nootropics are simply put supplements or drugs that improve cognitive function.  More on this soon but as for now let’s look at Nootrogen and Vitabalance as a company.

4# – Ingredients Inside Nootrogen

Quite a lot to go through here.  Active ingredients for starters contain a mixture of 21 different Vitamins and Minerals.  The phrase Nootropic Stack I think says it all, and this is before we even take a look at the proprietary blend.  Which are another 20 ingredients on top.  To go through all these I think will be a bit too much information but here are some highlights;

A.)  Nootrogen Active Ingredient Highlights;

i.)  DMAE (Dimethylaminoethanol)

Added to help maintain acetylcholine.  An important neurotransmitter produced by neurons within the brain associated with memory, mood and learning.  It is also the precursor for choline which is another ingredient added inside Nootrogen inside the vitamin and mineral blend.  Choline is the active chemical that creates Acetylcholine.

ii.)  Glutamic Acid 

This is another important amino acid that works as a neurotransmitter within the central nervous system.  It also works biologically in the synthesis of another neurotransmitter GABA [Gamma Amino Butyric Acid}.  Added also as a sperate ingredient within this proprietary blend and responsible for muscle tone.

iii.)  NALT [N-Acetyl L-Tyrosine}

The precursor to Adrenaline, Dopamine and Norepinephrine.  Another important amino acid that is an essential ingredient to any Nootropic Stack.  This is important for the production of thyroid hormones including melanin which we get our skin, and eye colour from.  As well as most importantly regulation of our metabolism.

B.)  Other Ingredients in Nootrogen

i.)  Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Zinc and Selenium

Of the 20+ ingredients from Nootrogens Vitamin and Trace Mineral blend these are some highlights.  Calcium: as well as being important for the bones supports synaptic plasticity.  Iron:  required for the synthesis of many different neurotransmitters.  Magnesium and Zinc:  Vital for production of glutamate and GABA.  Selenium:  Good for hair and skin as well as being a specialized antioxidant.

ii.)  B Vitamin Complex

Vitamin B3 – Niacin:  Important for brain cell function.  This does not naturally occur in our body’s so must be obtained by diet.  Vitamin B5 – Panthothenic Acid:  Many different important roles including synthesis of neurotransmitters.  

Vitamin B6 – Pyridoxal Phosphate:  Again must be obtained from the diet.  Essential for many important brain functions including the production of Dopamine, Serotonin, and Melatonin.  See Nootrogen website for more info.

iii.)  Bacopa Extract and Phosphatidylserine

So Bacopa extract is actually found in most Nootropic Supplements.  It supports Information processing and attention span.  As for Phosphatidylserine:  this is added to boost signalling and receptors within our neural networks.

6# – Nootrogen Customer Reviews

So, truth be told I am not very trusting of reviews that are on a product’s own website but there are quite a few reviews here.  As much as I think the Vitabalance has the perfect opportunity to control what is and isn’t published on their website I do feel that these reviews are varied enough to NOT be fake. 

There is a good mixture of 4 and 5-star⭐ reviews here so they have allowed some kind of which look to be genuine ones published.

Otherwise searching elsewhere online I found a handful of reviews on Amazon (UK).  I am not allowed to copy amazon reviews here because of copyright but of 14 reviews 78% are 4/5 Star Reviews.  Then there is one 2 star and one 3 stars who have not actually written a review.  

I think maybe this is a kind of good indication.  Amazon can be a good place to really get peoples point of view on products if they are the real thing.  I know sometimes people sell fakes on here but this listing I definitely don’t think this is.

Plus again the website is definitely worth reading their reviews on.

Customer Reviews:  4.2 Out of 5 stars

Would I recommend it?  Yes if you looking to try Nootropics I would.

ii.)  My Thoughts on Nootrogen and Nootropics

To summarise everything I think Nootropics are safe to take if you choose the right products.  My usual advice would be to check on Amazon for the products with the most positive reviews before choosing although I am not really a fan of the company or its owner.  However, to get people on the right track I’d rather be honest.

As for Nootrogen, I like 2 things about it before it even being a good quality Nootropics product (I will leave that up to the consumer) and these are the price which I think is a bargain and the company.  I will leave a few of my other Vitabalance reviews at the end of this post but I think they are a brand I can trust.  The website(s) I really like and how dedicated their customer support is that I think is golden.

Nootropics I don’t know too much about but I think if you are a writer like myself, maybe studying for exams, or just looking to expand your attention and mental clarity I think buying a bottle to see how it goes is worth a try, for sure.  You don’t have to go with Nootrogen but for the reasons, I explained above it should definitely be considered I think.
